Germany's GSG9 Counterterrorism Unit

The below video is a promo for GSG9. I thought it was interesting that some EOTechs and Trijicons seem to show up in a few shots. Germany is the home of some of the world's best optics and GSG9 chose to use some US models. I guess that says a lot, but did EOTech fix the problems they were having in the recent past?

Gun owners and procurement guys in Germany aren’t much different than in the USA.

They look at what the “cool kids” are using, and mimic accordingly. Whatever is different and unique seems to appeal to gun folks, and S&B is not “unique” to Germans.

Germany has some of the best glass companies, as far as optics are concerned. The glass aspect of the RDS isn’t as important as it is on a scope.

The story is that they have fixed the issue. Some vendors (sportsman’s guide for example) specifically mention old stock versus new stock. The key I think is the new Eotech logo. If the optic has that marking it should be good to go. I’m considering buying another one, personally.

Honestly I think it's more a case of Zeiss, Schmidt and Bender and the rest not really offering a RDS sight that is of the same quality as an EO or offering a low magnification optic as durable as a trijicon. If they were outfitting a DMR rifle I don't think they'd go with Nightforce for the "cool kids" factor, they'd use one of their own.

And if somebody was making a RDS of similar or better quality than EO or Trijicon they'd probably go with that.

There is no faster optic than an EOTech. There’s a reason despite all of the drawbacks that it is the optic of choice for our premier CQB specialists.

That has been my experience, and I agree with CPM that it's probably the fastest RDS design.
