Poll: Do you have/want or don't have/don't want an M1 Garand?

I have seen it expressed that if a guy has guns beyond what he really "needs" in his collection he should also have an M1 Garand.

Sometimes I want one but I'd probably shoot it once, put it away, and eventually sell it to fund something else.

    How about you?

I have an original T26 .308 conversation that I got from my uncle.
In no way do I make any money from anyone related to the firearms industry.

QFT. Really want one, but with tight budgets and the facts that nobody in the household is in physical shape to shoot one (three short-armed lardbodies, me being the least so) and it's not suitable for suburban Home D... not to mention the price tags when the rels and their accountants Monday Morning Quarterback my frickin' TOILET PAPER expenses for the house.

I have M1 Garands chambered in 30-06 and 308 Win. They are a gas to shoot. A ten year old can shoot one with the proper use of a good sling.

Nah. Some people don't like to post about what guns they have. I was looking to get an impression of the overall desirability of the rifle by the guys here.

So I thought putting those who really want/pine one and people who already own a dozen in the same group would simplify things.

People who don't want and don't have one are the other group.

Had one. I like anything that shoots a centerfired cartridge. If the price is right it's hard to say no. I had a good deal on a H&R (post war) Garand with 3k rounds of Greek surplus ammo. The whole thing cost me less than a $1000 so I had to scratch that itch. Fun accurate rifle but after that itch was scratched I got rid of it and don't really have a desire to buy another one.

I brushed so close with getting one over the years but am glad I didn't.

It is very much a rifle of its time and I'm at a point where I don't care enough about guns to want to deal with a lock, stock, and barrel gun.

Thats why I like Retro ARs. Can be maintained same as contemporary with no problem.

For the $730 I paid for the CMP Garand I have on order, I've easily spent money on worse things.

Personally, I like old guns. With the exception of a K31, I haven't sold a single old military rifle I've had. And that's one of the few I regret selling.

So long as I could get a supply of 30-06 and en blocs, I don't think I'd be at all uncomfortable using an M1C or M1D as a DMR against ISIS in Syria or Iraq.

I understand the notion of "every American needs ___ gun" but am not really a fan of it. If I were however, the M1 would be on there. I will never not own an M1, AR, and 1911.
