Yes I know, it's a CMP gun. But those Birch stocks probably are NOT original to the firearm itself. Lots of arsenal refurbs used Birch.

Shot one about a year ago, no desire to own one.

I'm pretty sure my M1 is a frankengun, anyway: Sept '43 SA build, post-war rear sight, birch stock... I haven't really had it apart, yet, to tell what's what, but...

Of course Numrich has refinished USGI stocks. In walnut. And apparently the Italians took USGI M1 Garand stocks and chopped them for the Terni, but Numrich has a bunch of them that have never been issued... and a bunch of those have had the extra 1/2-inch of stock added back on. Via some sort of gunsmithing magic, I assume.

A shooting buddy talked me in to buying a cmp special this summer. I think it’s a pretty neat rifle, and it gets lots of attention at the range. I’m still working on hand loads, so I’m not sold on it’s accuracy yet. Also, ammo is not cheap.

Own a '42 matching numbers M1 and just a couple years ago picked up from CMP last I was at Camp Perry a "Navy" complete refurb M1 in 308 with brand new match barrel, refinished metal and new stock.

The '42 M1 doesn't get shot much as its way to much of a collector item for me to shoot. The 308 M1 gets shot alot. I actually shot it at a 2gun match in the Heavy Metal division that allowed 45's not limited to 10 rounds (used my Glock 41) and placed top 9 out of 110 shooters. If I could find the Top 10 group photo its hilarious to see 9 AR's of various types and then me with the 308 M1 lol

I have several but only a few that I shoot. Most of mine I won shooting on the Navy Reserve Team over the years. I have one that was built for Garand Matches and it shoot very well.

How does one accurize a m1? Similar to m21? Unitizing gas cylinder, forend pressure, and bedding of the heel?

Dad gave me one of his. Joy to shoot.

I probably wouldn't have ever bought one as there is no practical hole in my collection it fills.
