11.5" barrel + perm attached silencer close but not under 16" combo inquiry...

I'm fantasizing about one day in the future having an AR upper with a barrel not shorter than 11.5" and a perm attach silencer that keeps the length as close as reasonably possible to 16" but without going under. This length issue is more important than absolute decibel reduction. However price remains an issue. It might be nice if the can could still be user serviced, but not essential.

Where do you find the actual overall length increase of a can? I notice that most manufacturers don't mention this on their product info site.

Trial and error or ask people how much length is added from the shoulder to the end of the suppressor.

I believe griffin armament has a suppressor that is designed to be pinned on a 10.5" to bring the overall length to 16".

I’ve been looking into an Ops Inc/Allen Engineering M4m and 12.5 lately. That might work for you, not sure. 16.5 oal, but I’m not sure how you would perm it. There’s a handfull of ~5 in cans out there.

If I had to attach a can to a barrel, I would look very hard at the Sig direct thread options; the 556 and 556ti. Very good price, lightweight, has an open area covering the threads that would allow easy pinning/welding. Most direct thread cans look like the sandman ti, where the full diameter of the can comes all the way back over the threads of the barrel. That seems like like nightmare to pin and weld. The sig can seems like the best option I know of.

Wasn't somebody welding a 1 3/4" diameter 6" sleeve on the end of the barrel. So you could attach a thread on suppressor on the inside. I think they called it their BFH big flash hider.

Tacsol does that. I've only looked at their 22 setups, but here are the full bore ones https://www.tacticalsol.com/tsar/

What problem are you solving by doing that? Not SBR’ing a lower?

Permanently attaching a suppressor to a barrel is akin to having unprotected sex in Africa with the hopes that you won't get HIV.

    That’s racist...but true.

Didn’t someone make or plan to market a 16” OAL assembly that was set up to take the guts if a suppressor once the ATF let it out of jail.
