Thumbs down Switzerland Police call on citizens to surrender weapons

They've been doing this since 2009.

    Firearms are legal there.

Would you just look at some the firearms being turned in!

    Just my opinion, but;
If you have a weapon in your home and you don't want it, have no place to secure it and aren't going to shoot it, give everyone a break.
Get someone to help you insure it isn't loaded and then either pass it down to a loved one or get a fair market value for it and sell it.
Turning it in would be my last choice, but for some that might make sense.
Leaving your Grandma who has dementia with a loaded handgun in the house because 'Murica might not be your best choice.

    Context:

Switzerland has a diminishing birth rate, a homogenous if slightly confederised group of cantons that are typically bilingual if not trilimgual. They have an extreme taxation and are effectively socialist. They are also border to several countries who are taking in migra ts by the trainload who brimg nothing to the table. Switzerland, however, has relatively decent migrant control.

    What does this mean?

A lot of old or widowed people are turning their stuff in because they don't want to bother with selling it outright and simply just dont want to deal with a gun they cannot shoot.

I doubt a lot of those guns will be destroyed. Likely resold tp dealers or end up in some Swiss cops' safes.

This is not confiscation nor is this any different than America where most people voluntarily turning it in are old people or pissed off divorcees.

I dont k ow what tbe real point pf this video is.

If I have no children, younger longtime companion, or living family when I get old; check the EE. I will unload everything. And not feel bad about it.

If I cant shoot or enjoy stuff anymore then it does me no good

I might keep like ONE 9mm pistol for SD and the EMT who helps haul off my dead body is welcome to it if I keel over with it in my pocket.

    So there it is

Besides the propaganda that firearms are a danger “to the population” and their stupid sign of a chained up revolver, if people don’t want to exercise their human rights, they are not required. And many don’t know how or where to sell it nor the rules around it. Heck, selling a car is difficult for most people and I’m sure they would be happy for a service to come get it and move it along for them.

I wonder if this is a regional initiative or national one. Like, is this the Los Angeles division of Switzerland?

    Regional. They have cantons.

    Switzerland is misunderstood.

Everyone thinks that it is this bastion of gun freedom and OCing a 550 to Starbucks.
    Newp.
They just have a lot of public transportation and police do actively check if your weapon is clear, no mag, and on safe. Plus to get your "free gun" you have to be in their little army. Plus guns are crazy expensive there past milsurp or a .22

Women did not even get the vote until 1975. They have something like the W. German Greens party who always push for no guns at home, and blah blah blah.

While they have like Feldschiessen and free ammo days most people are kinda ho hum.

Like if you show up thinking that a lotta dudes are gonna wanna rap about your kewl AR collection. You will be looked at as a weirdo

I liken gun people's preconceived notions about Switzerland to weebs and Japan thinking it is this paradise of hentai, anime, vidya, and freaky shit.

NEWP. I mean it's there but not popular and folks will think you are a wackadoo.

Like how everybody thinks Americans are retarded, blonde, and wear cowboy hats. Yeah that exists but like not everywhere.

I doubt Switzerland is totally disarming or anything.

    Yep this^

Their gun culture is totally misunderstood by US. They do get to keep their service rifle but only after it's converted to semi auto. There are restrictions on how much ammo they can have and ONLY for the guns they own. A check is done every year and ammo has to be accounted for. There are no carry permits and outside of the police and a few other specialized occupations no one can carry a gun.

That's it right there. I know people who don't vote. But that doesn't mean they should lose the right to vote. I know people who vote for bad people, that doesn't mean everyone else should lose the right to vote. The same holds true for free speech, owning guns, etc.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.
