That part costs so much because they are having someone make it for them in such small quantities.

    It’s just a castle nut.

For what it's worth, I use a Starrett automatic center punch to stake mine. I installed this BCM QD end plate this morning. Just need to hit it with some cold blue.

I tried one of the automatic punches but end up just hitting it with a hammer to speed up the process.

    I use this now

Just a few light taps to get a stake started and then a good wack or two and I am done.

The price is $188 due to:
    - HKParts.com puts a HEALTHY mark up on everything they resell.
    - HK is having some company make them special for them in small numbers so the cost goes up.

I was taught (previous non-gunsmithing job) to use a "prick punch" on the spot to be staked before using a center punch. It seems to help me get the stake right where I want it and keeps the center punch from "skidding".

    $5.51 from Brownells.

One also comes with the Brownells punch set:

How has bending a little metal turned into splitting a friggin atom? Bend the shit and move on with your life already.

Ha! Yes, it appears to be quite a complex process.

    American craftsmanship.

I understand it is a really simple thing to do, but I don't think I did it well so I am looking for improvement. Not trying to make it seem like its a big deal.
