I found it hard to argue F2S reasoning for the 100yd zero, more even so after he demonstrated its effectiveness.
Hard to argue a zen-master indeed.

Local indoor range is only 25, so I do all my zeroing of red dots and irons there using the 25/300 zero.

When I go outside to shoot, it's usually less than 200 yards, and on steel targets. I have always been able to get hits just fine with that zero, and am too lazy to change it.

I have been running an Aimpoint RDS on a 16" carbine for years. Using M193 or 55g SP I zero for 200 meters. The zero works from 2 yards to 250 yards. Hold 2" high inside 15 yards and use neck hold at 300 yards. Hold COM everywhere in between.

The carbine POI was verified in 1 yard increments out to 50 yards, 5 yard increments from 50 to 100 yards, at 200 meters, and every 25 yards out to 300 yards.

I've switched all my AR's to a "50/Whatever". With barrel lengths ranging from 7.5" to 20" it's nice to be able to pick up any rifle and know that it's dead on at 50 yards.

I am getting a Primary Arms 2.5 prism scope. They say zero at 50 yards but use this same dot setting for out to 300 yards. So the rise/drop at distance is not worth losing the shorter 50 ability.

People say combat distance is relatively close--less than 50 yards. I don't know if this holds for Iraq-Afghanistan and I wonder what those troops use for a zero.

    50/200 for all AR platforms.

Like Leaveammoforme, I like knowing that no matter what I pick up, it'll be minute of bad guy for any reasonable engagement distance if I do my part.

Iron sights and red dots are at 50/200. I zero my scoped rifles at 100 yds.

I prefer 100 for various reasons addressed before. One consideration is none of my local ranges go beyond 100yds, and I don't like a 50/200 zero without being able to confirm at 200.

Interesting. I live out west so long range is easy. Been thinking of trying a 200yd. and even a 300yd. zero while checking increments like you to know my holds. 2" approx. hold inside 15yds. is acceptable. Not asking like an ahole at all, but was it in yds. or meters for your testing?

F2S is a stud and had him out to UT for a private class.

I'll need a doll to show where he tried to touch me.

Anyway, it will be a busy spring at the range figuring it out. However, with F2S' reasoning, my time may just be wasted, but it will be fun. I am most likely making a switch to the first line HD weapons being suppressed SBR SP5K's worked by TSC so deciding on a zero for that(9mm) will be fun as well. Been in multiple classes at TigerSwan-->most of cadre now at "The Range Complex"(arguably some of best in biz), where we were shooting out to 100yds with pistols. So, a SBR 9mm will be fun to play with for finding zero. Again, will be interesting to see if come back to 25yds.

If you have the chance to train with Jack, take it.
