looking for interested parties and M4A1 and Mk18 experts

Hi all. I am looking for help, volunteers, etc., who can write about the weapons of the war on terror, like the M4A1 Block 1 and Block 2.

A few friends and I formed a group called SOCOM Weapons Organization, a non-profit club dedicated to education and out of respect for the men and women who served in Afghanistan, Iraq and other places fighting enemies seen and unseen around the World to maintain our freedom and that of our allies.

I have a shell of a Website setup, http://socomweapons.org and am looking for someone to write a page about the Block 1, add some pics, then specs, and how to build a clone, etc. Then the same for the Block 2, then the Mk18, the Mk11, Mk12, Mk13, M110, SAM-R, SDM-R, 416, 417, M1A SOCOM, and so forth.

I have all the infrastructure taken care of. I might need help in the actual Website technical end on WordPress, but mostly content. Also, this should be thought of as not an encyclopedia of all the content, but will have links back to this forum, for example, and other sources where the primary information is contained. I envision socomweapons.org to be a starting place, with a modest amount of primary information (by lines encouraged, but not required), but with more links to all the available information contained elsewhere.

Please email me if you have the time, the passion and the knowledge to help.

    john@socomweapons.org, or through this site.

Badass idea, I wish you the best of luck in this venture.

I can't contribute to this, but for some cool history, Travis Haley did do a write-up on the config he had on his M4 and 1911.

I'm no expert, but I wish you luck and am willing to try to assist with research to the extent I can.

Here's an alternate take on the Mod Holland's origins you might want to file away just in case: http://soldiersystems.net/2015/09/12...yl-holland-10/

I can't help you with the content or anything else really, wish I could, but it might be nice to know I've already bookmarked your website. Great idea!

I will tell what would be helpful. Pick a gun -- any gun -- and write a few paragraphs about what you know about the gun, its history, who used it (USA, USMC, Navy, Seals, Rangers, etc.), and/or the specs -- part by part -- for someone wanting to build a clone. Put it in a word doc and send to me at editor@socomweapons.org. that is an open invitation to anyone. Pics are appreciated. Any which are yours or in the public domain. I will curate and publish at http://socomweapons.org . If you go there today, you can see that I have done nothing but put up a shell.

The weapons I am targeting are the following, but please do not be limited. If you have a special interest in one not listed, go for it.

    M4A1 Block 1
    M4A1 Block 2
    Mk18 Mod 0
    Mk18 Mod 1
    SDM-R
    SAM-R
    Mk11 Mod 0
    Mk12 Mod 0
    Mk12 Mod 1
Mk13 Mod 7 (or any and all)
    M110
    M24
    M40

Let me make this point again. I would like to have some basic write-ups of each weapon, but I don't want to reinvent the wheel. There are lots of good primary sources out there, including Wikipedia. Links are good as well. Think of this as a site that people will GO TO for information, but the information does not need to reside there. Also, this is not an ongoing blog or forum. We can POINT back to this forum for discussions, etc. This should be thought of as the primary go-to place, and from there, we can point to pic thread here or elsewhere. This is high-level basic information. I also want to get some original stories by operators. Again, if there material is posted elsewhere, we can point, and not copy.

For the purposes of this thread in which the poster has created a SOCOM themed weapon website and wants people to write the articles for him, a MOD-H anything wouldn't have a lick of anything to do with it, especially as it isn't an actual weapon.

Locker rooms are littered with weapon variants and offshoots, none of which are anything more or less than the collaborations of the skilled armorers and concepts of the trigger pullers. While these can be great builds, that doesn't give them actual designations anymore than guys naming their personal builds they create or a cop naming his issued gun.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions. You are looking to create a website in which you lack the subject expertise, and are willing to rely on others whom you don't know, to write pieces for you?

I would most humbly submit that you do the work yourself. Create your own knowledge base for your own website. Much better for you to have less info, and know that you did it correctly, than for you to take the work of someone else who learned their information online, and has no actual knowledge of what is or isn't correct.

Lastly, make sure you have legal permission to use images. A lot of guys have their own pictures they have taken from when they are in the field. Using their personal pictures without their permission would be not only less than ethical, but also illegal, and creates legal options for them to go after you.

ETA- That actual last part.... are you going to have sponsors? If you are, you had really better make sure your work is all original, as you have entered a unique realm.
