Wilson Combat Acquires Chip McCormick Custom/Shooting Star Industries

First thoughts are "very interesting/curious". I don't understand why Wilson purchased them, what is the goal, what is the market?

Wilson Combat is pleased to announce the acquisition of Chip McCormick Custom/Shooting Star Industries, a leading manufacturer of quality 1911 magazines and related products. This purchase solidifies Wilson Combat as the quality brand leader in 1911 handgun magazines and related product development. The new company will be known as CMC/Shooting Star Industries during the transition.

Chip wanting to retire, Wilson wanting to absorb a competitor in the 1911/AR component field, plus the added production capacity for items like magazines and cartridge triggers which are pretty high margin.

Wilson's buy is probably simply to make sure that someone else didn't buy them and get a piece of the pie.

Interestingly I noticed Wilson combats most recent version of the ten round 45 mag has dispensed with the welded on “foot” on the front of the mag and is now built with a big bumper/sleeve like the McCormick version. ? Coincidence?
I had to send two Wilson 10 founders back for replacement when the welded on foot came off.

I am worried that they might streamline them into one. I like having two reliable mag manufacturers.

I'm guessing it has something to do with this. I'm guessing they will continue to make the magazines and overtime shrink the number of product lines down if some don't sell as well.

If they shrink the lines, I hope it's by merging the best technologies of both--I usually used CMC 8-round Shooting Stars in stainless back when I was more active, SS for the simple reason that by having my 7's always blued/parked/etc. and my 8's shiny metal I knew what I was loading with at a glance. (I prefer a 7 for starting along with a round in the pipe so I have a consistent eight per load.)

I hope they don't mess around with/get rid of the 8rd CMC power mags. Those have been my favorite 1911 mags.

Damn. Looks like it's time to buy some more mags.

Shouldn't this save them money concerning the drop in style AR triggers? I thought all drop in AR triggers pay royalty to CMC.
