    Well there is likely a difference in attitude between knowing youll die sometime later today and the idea that nuclear hellfire is on its way, right now

    Can't even imagine. Going through 1983-1984 was rough enough. No matter where I'd be, several times I day I thought "what would I do RIGHT NOW if the sirens went off?" We really thought it "could happen", difference being during and after the CMC people thought it WOULD happen.

    Only good thing that came out of it is my grandfather built a bomb shelter in the basement and it made a awesome fort during the 70s when I was a kid.
    It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    My guess ....Deer.....Headlights.....not even able to begin to form an action plan let alone create anarchy.

    I grew up a couple miles from a SAC base and wondering when it will happen. Went to an air show and the Air Force had a display showing off control thrusters for reentry vehicles. It was all so serious and at the same time sterile feeling.

    Latest WaPo article says false alert was intentional from employee. Person has been a problem FOR TEN YEARS and is able to send warning without supervision. Even though he has confused reality with drills TWICE BEFORE! Head of emergency services canned.

    Total failure all around. Problem employee given grave responsibility. System allows low level employee to send warning without double check or supervision.

    Also illustrated how infested govt agencies are with not just slacker workers but mentally ill and incompetent ones. They are very reluctant to go through the tedious process of canning bad employees and instead let them carry on even with serious responsibilities. I worked decades ago in a state agency with 500 claims managers. Over seeing $850 million in payments. Fully 1/3 of them were deliberately arbitrary or near illiterate incompetent. Never heard of a single one fired no matter what.

    Gives someone the excuse to push the emergency alert button every 3 minutes and blast people's tvs like crazy with that annoying alert.

    Crazy part was that I heard the alert over the phone however I didn’t hear our emergency sirens go off so I just brushed it off and went back to sleep
