Mounting an ACOG on Colt AR15A4

Does anyone own the Colt AR15A4 and know if you can mount an ACOG on the removable carry handle with this:

    https://www.opticsplanet.com/trijico...asher-set.html

Asking because AR15A4 has a removable carry handle, not sure if there is a difference between that and a permanent carry handle.

ACOGs were designed and used well before the removable carry handle/sight. It was designed to fit in the sight channel. Why you would want to do so, is another thing altogether.

What he said. Mounting on a carry handle really makes it sit high. Your best bet is to remove the carry handle and mount it directly to the flat top.

So I guess if I don't want to change the Colt AR15A4 from it's factory settings, then there really isn't an optimal optic. Just pure iron sights.

Any optic can be installed and used without making any changes to the carry handle's "settings".

Step 1 - zero factory irons
Step 2 - remove carry handle assembly
    Step 3 - install optic
    Step 4 - zero optic

A high quality QD optic mount should allow the two sighting systems to be installed/removed without significantly affecting POI.

What settings are you talking about?

Remove carry handle sight. Mount ACOG in flat top mount of your choice. Install onto upper receiver. Add rear BUIS as desired. Not sure what else there is to say.

OP, you have the same malady I had when I bought my first M4: you want to keep it stock as much as possible.

Solution: shoot it with irons until the new wears off, or, buy another identical rifle and keep one in irons and the other in optics.

There really is no other remedy.

OP, if you want to keep the carry handle mounted AND run an optic, look into a cantilever mount. The cantilever mount will position the optic out over the handguard and allow cowitnessing with your irons. My Dept. used Trijicon reflex sights for 8-10 years set up this way.

Please be sure not to disassemble your AR15A4 using the two push pins, either. This will keep your AR as original as possible.
