Thunder Ranch has weapons collaborations with numerous companies. While there might be plenty of internet pseudo expert haters, it doesn't change Clint isn't impressed with those persons and doesn't care what they think. He is making a weapon in this case which fills the niche that he wants. He isn't going to lose sleep not selling thousands of these, and I don't think for a minute that was ever his intent.

Clint doesn't care what you think about his S&W collaborations, and he won't care about thoughts on these AR15 designs either. In having conversed with him and sat down at his house grabbing a bite to eat, it is readily apparent that Clint is very squared away, and does things his own way based on his own experiences. I do things based on my own training and experiences, and so does everyone else out there once they arrive at a certain point.

I don’t think any naysayer of the rifle was attacking Clint Smith or Thunder Ranch, rather that one could get a functionally identical rifle for less money. It’s a matter of value. For instance vs this rifle for $500 less:

I don’t think your comment addresses what people are saying, rather appears to be a blind defense of an attack that was never waged. No disrespect to you or Smith, but it really didn’t add to the conversation.

Stick, I have a lot of respect for you, so don't take what I am going to say here wrong. But can you ask Clint why they decided to do the cut outs on the lower the way they did and what purpose those are to serve? Not trying to be a smart ass, God knows I am more more than capable of being one, but if he has a reason I would like to hear it. Because, I don't have anything inherently against TR in general or Clint in specific, there have been comments and quotes from him that I have used myself. But, somethings there aren't anything that I would see as being a normal feature on what I am assuming to be fighting rifle. Nor is their "Marksman" rifle any better considering it has a 9 inch rail to the 13 inch on the "Standard" and what appears to be a carbine length gas system on a 20 inch barrel. I'm sorry, things aren't making sense for anything that is being marketed as fighting rifles and people want to know what is what. Again, not attacking you, but if Clint has reasons for the set up and features on these rifles there are more than a couple people here who would like to hear them. I mean, not everything that carries TR has been panned as crap, I've handed the Les Baer TR 1911, it is nice. But, these ARs don't follow the concept of anything that makes sense for someone with a lot of rounds on theme, even it if is just various and preferences.

I don't take your comment as an attack at all. What I understand as a reason for why Clint uses the lower with cutouts is for the same reason there are sand cuts on a FAL. It is a last chance for debris or mud to get kicked out as the magazine is being inserted. Now is just my take on Clints wording, as it is paraphrased at best.

My comments on Clints weapons are not meant to state that I agree, or disagree. The previous comments posted are meant to remind people that mainstream, or what you or I consider proper or functional, are not always the target audience which a company is going for.

You guys have all seen my personal weapons, and I don't think mine mirror by any stretch what TR is making in the AR world.

You evidently didn't understand my post in the slightest, which is fine. Either way, welcome to the board.

This video addresses Mr. Smith's thoughts and opinions about the TR rifles expressed across the internet.
I like to listen to Clint. I'd like to train at his place some day. I still can't get over the decisions Clint made on the 20" barrel version. I would love to hear the reasons behind the carbine length gas system and short rail system. Meh.. whatever.

Thanks for the welcome. Maybe I misunderstood, all I saw was a very defensive post but saw not attacks on Clint or his rifles other than price/value. Sometimes it’s hard to tell on these forums what people are attempting to convey.
