Gas block - Crosspinning vs dimpling

I picked up a barrel and gas block from BA, and they came cross drilled with a pin. Is there any reasonable reason to dimple in addition to this? It would seem that it satisfied the same purpose that dimpling usually serves.

You're correct in your assessment: there's no point in dimpling if it's pinned.

Agreed with above IF the hole is a taper hole as drilled and the pin is a taper pin.

There's no need. In my opinion, pinning is overkill on a lo pro that's under a rail. A dimple with rockset on the set screw is plenty. I've done a bunch of lo pro blocks, and have yet to see one that moved.

If you put a cylinder in a hollow cone, its only secure on one side... or am i completely missing something?
I would assume the hole is tapered. If not, how is the pin secured?

BA’s low profile gas block uses a single roll pin. The hole is not tapered, the pin is secured by friction and the spring pressure of the roll pin it’s self.

I don’t like the idea that BA uses a roll pin vs a solid straight to taper pin
