OPINIONS/ADVICE ON BEST AK47 IN THE $700 OR SO PRICE RANGE

Please give a brief reason why you think so, along with any personal experience. Hoping to soon make a purchase.
Also, where to buy. Thank you much!

AK's have gone through the roof since the sanctions on Russia went into effect. For $700 you will not find a quality rifle unless you buy a used one from someone who doesn't know what the AK market is doing right now.

I would opt for a rifle that was assembled in a AK factory.

If you can spend a little more look in to the Arsenal SLR-107.
Factory built by people that have been building AK's for over 50 years. Its a Bulgarian hybrid take on the AKM.

    Another cheaper alternatives are
The Serbian Zastava N-Pap, but keep in mind some parts are not interchangeable with "standard" AK's

Also dont overlook the WASR, may not be the prettiest but they run.

What ever you do run - don't walk - away from anything by Inter-Ordnance or Century Arms.

I actually had some problems with my WASR. Failures to eject that would lock it up pretty good. Eventually got better with more rounds through it. Never trust a rifle just because of the name on the side.

Looks like the typical "high quality" Arsenal bullshit in the form of poor quality control and/or soft trunnions or related issues.

Yeah, that thread is not good for arsenal. Atlantic has put together some nice kits that you might want to consider if you are willing to spend a little more money as well.

And supposedly their official answer (from the same thread) is:

Guys, this is official answer from Arsenal Inc, this is direct quote:

"On Sunday, January 28, 2018, Arsenal became aware that an internet blogger posted concerns regarding “premature wear” in the Arsenal SLR107R series rifles. Arsenal has reviewed the issues raised by this blogger and have found that the concern is based upon what appears to be wear on the trunnion at the point it makes contact with the bolt. These issues do not appear to create any safety or reliability issues. Rather, this is caused by two different metals impacting one another and, once broken in, there should be no issue. Each firearm is unique, and some may have varying sizes with respect to the clearance chamfer on the trunnion block. As such, there will be some firearms where the chamfer will initially make contact with the bolt. Again, once broken in, the bolt will perfectly align in the chamfer for a consistent and reliable fit going forward. Arsenal stands behind its firearms and, if you have any questions or concerns, you are welcome to contact Arsenal customer service."
My take: shoot your gun for a year. It'll be okay. And if it's not it'll be out of warranty and it's your problem, Mkay?
