    SBR barrel gas port help

I've been reading and searching in an attempt to find a barrel for my SBR upper.
I want (pretty sure) a 12.5" barrel. I'm open to other lengths if it makes sense.
Trying to get information on a good port size is a bit maddening.
This will be shot suppressed, though through a .30 cal can.
My usual range ammo is Wolf Gold.
This is nothing more than a fun range gun, but I want a barrel that doesn't make me regret shooting it.
    I don't want stainless.
Not a fan of the govt profile.
Of course hammer forged would be great.
Any info or help would be great. Thanks!

ETA: I realize that the 12.5" length isn't common, so I'm open to lengths above 10.5".

Your criteria doesn’t match with merely a fun range gun.

The only chf 12.5 I can find that is not govt profile is Noveske.

Get an adj gas block if it’s for the range only or the BRT custom tune for more serious use.

It would be cheaper and easier to get an 11.3 performance series hanson profile from Ballistic Advantage. Plus that size matches well to the common 10.5 handguards.

Well the two good CHF barrels I would recommend are both Gov’t profile, but they are still great barrels. I’m referring Daniel Defense (my personal pref) and also BCM’s CHF.
If you want a good barrel non-gov’t profile, I also have a 12” LaRue Stealth in one of my SBR’s. It’s not a CHF, but I believe the steel used is quite good. Very good I believe. It runs fine with or without my 762 SDN-6 can (.30 cal), no adjustable gas block needed. I ran a bead of high temp RTV on the horseshoe of the charging handle to help with the gassiness and have no issues with it at all.

Thanks for the help. I’ll look at the 11.3” barrels.

    12.5" barrel gas port help

It’s getting even shorter, but I can personally vouch for BA’s 10.3 Hanson. Mine isn’t CHF, but boy is it a fine shooter for such a short barrel. They have a limited run of CHF barrels.

I’m a bit limited in length as my suppressor warranty is 10.5” and longer.

From my experience the bcm’s SBR uppers will run weak Ammo once you add a suppressor. I know people say they have conservative gas ports but mine run Tula and wolf just fine with a suppressor and still seem “over gassed” with an h3 buffer and blue springco spring.

I would go with an 11.5” for red dot or if you like irons the the 12.5” kino style. I love mine with an iron sight carry handle.

I think the perfect compromise barrel length for the SBR is an 11.5" and they seem to the ones that have less problems than some of their contemporaries.

    SBR barrel gas port help

Well, I placed an order for this barrel today.

I don’t ever run low lowered ammo, so I don’t want to deal with too much gas.
