    Sig556 Gas Valves

I have a Sig556 Classic and Sig556 SBR. Both have been great other than ejecting spent cases in to orbit. I recently purchased two gas valves, hoping that I might be able to weld up the holes and redrill them.

The one still in the bag and the one on the right are the two new ones. The one in the middle is out of my Sig556 SBR. The thing that I noticed immediately is that the holes in the two new gas valves are not the same size. The holes in the valve on the left actually appear to be larger than the holes in the original gas valve. The holes in the gas valve on the right are significantly smaller than either. Another thing that I noticed that seems odd is the gas valve on the left has the letter A on the opposite side as the UP designation. The original gas valve has an E at the same location. The valve on the right with the smaller holes does not have a letter. Any idea what the letters designate? The bag indicates that they were made in Israel. Given that it seems like it would take effort to drill the gas holes different sizes and there are letters on some of the valves, I find it hard to believe that the different size holes are simply a result of poor quality. Any ideas?

Hate to break it to you but SIG USA is not SIG SAN. My SIG 556's were junk. In fact it makes me extremely leery buying the original Swiss guns even now. Either way, I don't own any currently.

I guess that I got lucky with both of mine. I already know they're not the same company. That's why I'm looking for specific information about these Sig USA parts.

There is a thread on this forum noting problems with 556 gas valves. Noteably, the hole sizes appear randomly drilled. Some dude on the line was pulling drill bits out of a hat.

They should not be the same size. I have a Sig556 that has the exact same size holes, making the adjustable gas system pointless. I've been procrastinating getting a proper gas valve, looks like SIG USA is finally making them.

That could be the case, but the letters on the valves might indicate something too. Perhaps the letters indicate the hole size openings and all the valves just got mixed together. BTW, whoever drilled the holes was in Israel, not New Hampshire.

The ones pictured are not the same size on the same valve. However, there is far more of a difference in the hole sizes from valve to valve than there is on the same valve. Are you inferring from the fact that I was able to purchase these that Sig USA is making them again or do you have other knowledge. A search of their website turned up nothing.

Early on it was impossible to find replacement valves, I am assuming you got yours from them.

No. I bought them from Optics Planet. They have some Sig556 parts which I'm guessing are old stock.

I wonder if CAA is the actual manufacturer.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

    Chuck, we miss ya man.

Very solid guess. I wish I sold mine during the Sandy hook panic.
