Does the 7N6 round in 5.44x.39 cause more damage than a .308??

I know people may think its a joke but the 7N6 tumbles like mad and causes more tissue damage than the 7.62x.38. I am sitting on a spam can of 1,080 rounds. Im Looking to buy another 1,080 rounds. My theory is that the.308 would create a big hole but would not yaw and tumble like the 5.45 round. I have a Colt LE6920 and like it but the AK74 has a reputation as being a wicked round. Maybe its over hyped??

    Sorry 5.45 round not 5.44!

Good .308 makes scary big holes.
There isn't much in the world of 5.45 that compares.

    5.45 is a ripoff of 5.56

Its only appeal before the ATF sperged put was that it was cheap.

Otherwise it is the Soviets using a pencil while we use a space pen.

I'm sure someone will be along to cite how we need 5.45, Dragunovs, and RPGs to win wars.

Well it points naturally, relatively light and much easier than a pistol for home defense. The AK74 I like the same but I worry about future ammo availability. My Colt is about 6.9lbs. I like light rifle's. Maybe a DD V7 next. Arsenal stopped making the slr104fr which was around 6.1 lbs. DAM!!!

Yaw is not the ideal way to get consistent or optimal terminal performance.

    Look up barrier blind ammo.

They both work. If you can't afford both buy good 556 and forget about it.

And yes you do need an SVD

Yeah I read that. But 5.45 is a tumbler. I'm sure the premium AR15 rounds outperform fmj rounds in 5.45. I have Hornady Tap 2 in my home defense gun. I'm not sure what rifle Im getting next. The one reason I like AK74 is because they don't need the extra maintenance of the AR15. And in .308 I was thinking of a Springfield Scout Squad. Can't afford the FN Scar17. I got some good barrier blind loads in 5.56. To expensive to waste on target shooting.its

The 5.45 7N6 might tumble and create a larger wound channel that a 7.62x39 full metal jacket bullet, but that's hardly in impressive feat.

308 Winchester ammo with expanding hunting bullets is highly effective at creating permanent would channels, penetrating adequately, and stopping threats (even if the threat is a huge elk).

If you want to get a bunch of 7N6 for plinking or zombie defense, go for it.....just don't expect it to perform as well as a 308 Winchester cartridge loaded with a 150 or 165 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip or Sierra GameKing bullet.

What "more maintenance" exactly? I own both and both are maintained the same way. Shoot it? Eventually clean it! Done!

You can afford a $1000 +/- Springfield Scout bit not the barrier blind ammo? Common. If you can afford to buy a firearm you can afford to buy ammo for the firearm/s you already have. Also, if you can't afford that specific 556 what are you going to do with 308? Cheapest 308 range ammo is in the 50 cent price range. Quality 308 is up there
