I'm not Paranoid Prepper, but we're in the seismically-overdue Cascadia Subduction Zone and have volcanoes in the backyard, and they won't even let me do the Ready.gov MINIMUM without monkeywrenching. (Not to mention their "Nobody NEEDS that" attitude toward even soft vests never mind hard plates...)

OTOH, in a COMWEC once I have them squared away I have to slog my way across the continent to go extract the GF and her parents unless they're here visiting... and even then, between various medical issues of hers and their ages they have a very short post-TEOTWAWKI life expectancy. They probably wouldn't live long enough for me to get from Seattle to Toronto even in the highly unlikely event that *I* survive the trek, but I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I didn't make the effort.

Yes, survived Wilma in SoFla, no power no gas no traffic signals for 1-3 weeks depending on location.

Put shock in neighbors pool, opened 1 fridge a day for food for immediate neighbors, cooked with charcoal and propane normal supplies. Humans lived without power and niceties for a long long time, speculating what will come and trying to prepare for everything is fruitless endeavor.

Should be fine unless meteor hits us and then won't care much anyway.

Not really prepared. We've got a few cases of water stacked, a few deep freezers filled with frozen crap (pizzas, fish sticks, popsicles, etc. no venison unfortunately). We live in a one story ranch style house tucked away in a semi-rural neighborhood (basically someone dropped a neighborhood in a cornfield), so we wouldn't be the first target.

Ferfal's Argentine collapse blog is ALWAYS good to read every few years - just to keep familiar with the warning signs of economic/societal collapse, and how to prepare to "head it off at the pass" in your own domicile.

I dial into Survivalblog fairly regularly - particularly when gold or silver are on the move - in either direction. Lots of practical EVERYDAY advice there as well, for those who would like to stretch a budget.

I'm not ready to go Robin Williams in "The Survivors" just yet, and I steer away from people & websites where that runs strong...

I picked up a dual fuel generator last year and had my house wired for a plug. Also picked up a few of those 30 day food bucket. Had a 1000 gallon reservoir installed that my well feeds. Looking to develop the spring at the bottom of the property. My neighbor is an organic food grower and has many green houses. Outside of that we’ve been stocking up on medical supplies. Also have a few carbines, pistols and ammo.

Your biggest concern in SHTF is keeping a low profile.

This 100%! Relating back to the OP, he almost stresses not showing off that you are wealthy, or almost prepped. I like to live by that in most everything I do...kind of hard at my size, but not standing out will help you in the long run. People will look for the easiest most noticeable targets.
