Should I just get this set and call it a day then?

I wasn't really wanting the triangular handguard though. I don't really want the round A2 version either.

I’m not going full retro, but I am using a CavArms A1-length stock for a DMR-type rifle.

Have you considered the GWACS lower receiver-stock polymer combination/abomination from your earlier picture? Were I to ever care about making a lightweight build, I’d probably go that route. InRange used a couple for their What Would Stoner Do builds. I doubt they are highly favored here, though, since lightness can be achieved in more standard ways.

I am a big fan of the A1 length stock, but I am trying out a Magpul MOE, it has a lot of neat features, storage, able to mount quick connect sockets etc. If I can live with the length it will make a good stock.

Which Would You Choose? (New Build Question)

The MOE does indeed use an A1 receiver extension without spacer. The buttplate hinges to the side, making the overall length the same as an A2.

I'm kinda in the same boat as officerX.

I have a 20" upper, with an MOE rifle length handguard. I'm currently using an old A2 stock, but have been considering an MOE for the improved sling attachment. I'm not sold on the MOE appearance, but if it feels and works well, then that's more important. I use the lower primarily for upper handload evaluation for multiple uppers from the bench, so the A2 length works for me. For general use, I'd also prefer an A1 buttstock.

I believe the MOE fixed length stock is supposed to split the difference in LOP between the A1 & A2.

For the build described, I would use the Magpul Fixed Length Carbine stock with a thick pad and make a spacer, if needed, between the front of the stock and the plate. In fact, that's exactly what I'm using on my 20" precision AR.

I like the look of the A1 better.
