Irons and front sight post width/different distances.

I have Magpul MBUS Gen 2 irons and have always wanted to know how much target I'm covering up at different distances with the front sight post. We have steel at various distances out to 360 yards with IDPA, 8" and 4" at several locations. Even the 4" is completely covered up at 100 and I know we have a math wizard and tech maven who might point me in the direction of a table or web link where I can look at these numbers. Thanks

Standard sight post width is 0.070" - 0.072". Sight radius makes a difference at what you are seeing. Are your iron sights on a carbine or rifle?

A standard M-14 sight is 0.084" and it covers about 8.4" at 100 yards. The M-14 sight radius, for a 22" barrel, is 26.75". 26.75"/17.75" x 8.4" x .070"/.084" = 10.549". Your front sight should be covering about 10-1/2" at 100 yards depending on how far off the rear sight your eye is positioned.

It's easy enough to verify. Post an 8-1/2" x 11" piece of paper sideways on a target board and hold 6 O'clock at 100 yards. The front sight should appear to be close to the same width as the piece of paper.
