Suppressed G17 - Recoil Spring Weight

When I shoot my G17 with an AAC Illusion, I get an occasional particle/grit/sand blast blowback to the face, and the gun gets extremely dirty. Is this due to the barrel unlocking a little too early? Would a stronger recoil spring, like say 20 lbs, help mitigate either of these issues?

Most handguns will give gas blow back suppressed, and what you are experiencing is normal for a suppressed handgun. It is something you work with when shooting suppressed.

If you use a suppressor on an AR you will get blow back.

The debris/grit, is sometimes the powder not burning complete. Make sure you have eye pro on!

I also run a 17 with an Illusion-9. I use a factory RSA. Using a suppressor is dirty business. Keep the factory RSA and give the suppressor a good cleaning, that should help to reduce the amount of carbon you wear home.

When I used to suppress my G19, I used a .40 cal G23 recoil spring. No sure how beneficial it was, but I saw no downsides.
