I just recently purchased my first custom 1911. I purchased a WC X-TAC Professional 4" in 9mm. It is their base model. I did some trading and picked up a WC Vickers Elite in 9mm and a Vickers Elite Black Edition in 45acp.

The X-TAC is all steel but should ride good in a DeSantis 002 Speed Scabbard I have coming. It functions just as nice as the Vickers Elite does, just none of the extras. I do prefer the medium length trigger on the Vickers over the long pad of the X-Tac. Still not sure if I like the Sunburst grips. The Vickers fill my hand without voids. Grip panels are an easy change. Not sold on the gold bead front sight either.
OH YES, I am a BIG Fan of front serrations. The X-TAC does not have them, but being 9mm the slide is easy to clamp the slide out front and press check or rack it.
Nothing I can't work through with the X-TAC. It should be quieter, No BELLS AND WHISTLES making so much noise.

So much ammo to shoot, so little time for a retired person, now the chief cook and bottle washer. Honey DOos.

Well done, looks like somebody jumped in with both feet. Sweet 1911 family. That 9mm is one of the hottest rigs around these days.

I own 1911s from pretty much every value range. A Sig Tacops that is totally unreliable after numerous visits to sig, a Kimber Desert Warrior that is the best production gun ive ever owned, a DW Specialist Commander that is by far the best 1911 available under $2G, a custom NH Falcon (my favorite) and a Wilson Tac SG. Of all of them i carry the DW the most, it is 100% reliable and more accurate that i am. I have used it in several pistol courses and it runs like a swiss clock. The NHC is by far the finest 1911 ive ever owned. It surpasses my Tac SG is a very very nice gun but the Falcon is better honestly. I found tooling marks in my SG that (for the price) should not be there, and while smooth as silk the NH feels like its on ball bearings. Plus, it was nearly $2500 less
Be of good cheer, you men of Valor.

The 9mm XTAC Professional was a basic bottom rung 4" pistol at $2895.00. It being all steel and heavy coned barrel ought to shoot like nothing at all.
    What it does have: https://www.wilsoncombat.com/x-tac-professional/

It does not have the milled slide top,
Heavy Machine Chamfer on Bottom of Slide
    Fluted Chamber
    Countersunk Slide Stop
    Medium Trigger
    Ball Endmill Cuts
    Flush Cut and Reverse Crown
    30 LPI Slide Top Serrations
40 LPI Serrated Rear of Slide

I may never shoot the 2 Vickers Elites.

Heck of a time we are living in these days. Some great pistols to chose from in the $1200-3000 range.

I have a Garthaite 10mm that is awesome. I only have 2 pistols I baby: that 1911 and a Sig 550. The fit and finish on the Garthwaite is amazing.

He does exceptional work. The fit, finish and smoothness of a full custom is exceptional.

I have a Chambers and a GCNM that has a bit of work done by Bob Rodgers. My only customs, I do have a few other production pistols.

Jim Garthwaite built this Delta Elite for me back around 2004. Larry Vickers had told me if I wanted a Colt done up right I should have Jim do one. Glad I took his advice. Jim turned the job in 3 or 4 months, delivered right on schedule.

Back then I think I dropped about 2 grand for the work, and I provided the gun and barrel. He provided everything else, parts labor and finishing.

One thing you get with this class of gun is personal tailoring. We talked about my shooting preferences and made part selections accordingly. I even sent him my preferred loads so he could shoot it and get the front sight right so I didn’t have to crank the Bomar into some dorky looking position to zero the gun. When I received the gun it was 100%.

He did the nicest Bomar I’ve ever seen, especially considering this is S80:

    What you get

In the spirit of the OP, when LAV built me a couple of guns we literally spent an hour talking about my shooting style and how I intended to use the guns. After some back and forth, things were settled and when the package showed up, I got more than I asked for.

I haven’t had a gun built in at least a decade. Don’t know if those sorts of conversations are the norm today with top shops.

Reality is I think a CQB or SACS Custom Carry is superb for carry. But the next level gets you that personal touch, at least in one man shops.

I very much enjoying seeing everyone's custom builds and such. I would throw mine up, but it's just a tool I've made upgrades to for function (minus the bushing comp that came with it when I bought it) and would be embarrassed next to these hi polish guns.
