Are they nose to nose? Looks to me like the LAV might be further away.
I'm guessing that the LAV is further away and the picture is a bit deceptive.
Generally the Germans make fine IFV's and Scout vehicles.
I believe the Spahpanzer Luchs had dual drivers so they could get out of trouble just as fast as they got in to it.

Perspective is an issue in the photo above, but the Boxer is very long and not small overall.
