I personally like Carl Sagan. Has anyone actually heard Hawking's voice prior to his debilitating disease? I don't recall seeing any film or videos of him actually speaking.

Brilliant mind, but I don't think he quite stands in the ranks of Einstein, Newton or Copernicus. Figured a few things out and proved the existence of things others said should exist but in terms of irrefutable amazing discovery he was probably somewhere between Sagan and Lowell.
Best thing about Hawking is they wrote him off almost decades ago and he not only survived past expectations but continued to contribute.
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.
