So I bought a Ruger American 7.62x39 and I noticed something concerning...

There is no front lug for the mag. The only thing holding the mag in the front is friction. The only lock point is the rear lug.

I wonder how that will hold up over time.

Also of interest is that like an AR you can not put the safety on when it is not cocked.

I was suprised when the mags did not “rock” in like a mini14/30. Mine seems to be holding up well.

Yeah that got me too. I tried to rock and lock the mag and I was like What?

Thanks for letting me know that it seems to hold up well.

Mine is holding up well also, probably have 250 rounds through it or so. Handy rifle!

Took several deer this past season with a 308 version. No issues with the magazine or overall function. In fact, enjoying the lightweight + reasonable accuracy. Great knock around the woods gun, especially for the low price.

I have two, one for my son and one for me. Both are holding up well with about 300 rounds or so through each. I think the tight fit and the latch work together to hold it in place. This might eliminate some of the wobble found in the longer mags and the standard Mini system. I should add that we have only run 10 rounders through our though.

Mine has no issues yet either. I have three of the 5 round magazines, and two of the 20 rounders. I hardly use the 20's, being so heavy and all, but they work just the same.
    Good night Chesty...wherever you are.
