I gage pinned measured the above linked Spikes Tactical barrel at .076"dia. I run an H1 weight buffer with this barrel instead of a H2 buffer if I am using under full 5.56mm pressure ammo like PMC, etc.
Iraqgunz is correct in there is no industry wide gas port size or standard for the midlength barrels, and what one manufacture deems correct another one may not.

I personally like mid-length gas barrels ported close to the size BCM ports theirs to. The following statement and recomendations are from BCM.

{ Our 14.5" mid length gas barreled upper receiver groups have been specifically tuned to be a very soft and fast shooting set up. They are a joy to shoot, but please feed it good ammo. With good milspec pressured ammo we have been running H buffers. We do not recommend using lower powered ammo. If using less than milspec pressured ammo, it may be best to run a standard carbine buffer }.

Thanks. I added it to "the chart". https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets...#gid=766121382

Hopefully someone will measure the gas port on USASOCs URG-I DD 14.5" mid barrel is so we can finally have a "mil-spec" or as close to one as we can get. Bill Geissele said himself that the uppers they will be selling are using the exact same barrels as delivered to USASOC which will be the first midlength gas system officially adopted by the .mil

Thanks for the input guys. I went with a BA Hanson CHF CL 14.5 Mid. Apparently the blanks are DD, and BA seems to not have their head in the sand when it comes to gas port sizing. Hoping for the best...

If durability is your absolute concern I highly recommend you wade through Ron's Battlefield Vegas threads. His range consumes more ammo in a months span than most military posts (not kidding). They rent machine guns and shoot roughly 400k rounds of full auto fire monthly. He has an impressive array of firearms spanning history, and offers everything from Sturmgewehr Stg44's to M134D's. He speaks at length about barrels and durability from different manufacturers. One of his many threads: https://www.ar15.com/forums/AR-15/Hi...677135/?page=1

Spoiler Alert: Colt's have gone 100k before keyholing, and he's been impressed with their small parts and general quality.

It is not a Geissle product. The USASOC front end is G and DD parts.

Commercially G is assembling. For military, DD is assembling.

They are using a Daniel Defense 14.5” mid-length gas system M4 barrel with a DD Mk12 has block and Surefire 4-prong f/h and old Colt uppers. Nothing new. The Geissle rail and AIrborne charging handle are new. The c/h is actually different from the one commercially available.

I would imagine it would hard to get a more durable barrel than a centurion arms double chrome lined chf barrel with fsp.
