    Cool AR9

I hope this is the right forum. I have been playing with some PSA AR9's. I bought a 2 complete uppers. One 16, and the other 10.5. I bought 1 complete 9mm Glock mag compatible lower. It runs well. I bought one of their stripped billet LRBHO lowers. Built it for the 10.5 upper. Shockwave brace and tube. Mistakes on building the lower? I dropped in a standard 3.0 buffer. It worked fine but I think the BCG was moving too fast for the LRBHO mechanism to work. I switched the buffer to a Spikes ST-T3 5.4oz buffer. It seems to have pretty much fixed the BHO problem. The BHO is also dependent on the mag spring tension.

I bought 2 Matrix Arms lowers to build. They have an allegedly better LRBHO design. One may replace the PSA LRBHO lower. I am waiting for a PSA .40S&W upper to come out. Or I will find components to build my own.

One thing that seems to be the common denominator with Glock mag compatible carbines is the lack of a feed ramp. I was at a club match in Key Largo the other day and stopped by and talked with a guy who seemed to not know anything about his Wilson Combat carbine. He opened the bolt and I looked. No feed ramp in the lower, and nothing going machined into the barrel. I have been known to port cylinder heads so I have the tools to make my own feed ramp. From what I have seen these guns can be ammo picky. Especially with JHP's. So far they feed Federal aluminum, and brass 115, MEN 124gr NATO. They don't like Winchester steel. With JHP's Geco 115gr, 115gr Freedom XTP's. I can't remember if I have used the Remington bulk pack 115 JHP's or not.

I do have some 9oz buffers to try in the future if I could remember to take them to the range!

    I am not a stranger to the PCC's. I have a Keltek Gen2 9mm Sub2000, and Hi-Points in 3 flavors. 9, 40, and 45. Yes I am thinking about getting a 10mm one of these days

If you want to enjoy reduced recoil throw in a Tubb's flatwire AR10 rifle spring and Kynshot/Blitzkrieg hydraulic buffer. Super easy recoil. Just using the Tubb's spring with your present buffer will make a nice difference. Cheapest place I've seen the Tubb's spring in on Larue's website. Just be aware the Tubb's spring is half again longer than a regular rifle sping but it will all fit in a carbine tube without causing any binding.

If I can keep my LRBHO working dependable with a $22 buffer fine. I'm not concerned with the recoil impulse to dump $100+ into a hi-tech buffer system. I just want to build a good solid weapon that will be durable.

I have that buffer as well. It works best with the Tubb's spring but I found that true of any buffer system I've used so far. The dead blow buffers like the Macon Armory 7.7oz shot filled buffer are a little smoother but they all start around $50. If you use it with the Tubb's spring I think will be very happy. If you don't want to spend $20 on the Tubb's just use an AR10 spring with it. The heavier the better from my experience.
I've tried 6 or 7 different buffers and just about every spring out there. Yes, I've put way too much money into messing with my 9mm ARs but I'm retired so it gives me something to do.

Just so you know my testing has all been with two rifle uppers a 16inch and 17.5inch. I understand pistols might not need quite as much weight/spring tension so keep that in mind. I just put together a pistol and will be testing that soon.

In my experience, the heavier the buffer the better. I am running a 12.5 oz buffer with an extra power spring. I shoot mostly suppressed though.

The best solution for lrbho is the new frontier armory lrbho upper. I have had a few different brand lowers and could never get any lower to give me reliable lrbho with every mag I own. The nfa upper has been 100 % (I did have to tweak the mechanism a hair though)
