What does everyone think about an RMR on a M1A?
Which M1A?
It makes a lot more sense (though not much compared to an RMR on a lightweight AR) on a 16" Socom than on a 22" standard.
Is that just because of the shorter barrel rail system etc.
Red Dot Sights excel in short range, fast target acquisition. A 22" wood stocked M1A, at almost 9 pounds with 44" overall length, is far from ideally suited to short range use.
The M1A's excellent sights allow the rifle to take full advantage of the capabilities of the 308 Winchester cartridge.
Your absolutely right,so on to the next project.
If I were to run an optic on my standard, 22" M1A, it would certainly be a magnified ~3-4.5 to 9-16 scope.
I put a few rounds through a 16" barreled M1A once. It swung and handled more lively than mine, but I still wouldn't choose it over a 6.8 SPC AR for door banging duty.

Except in Mogadishu...
"You go into Afghanistan, you got guys who slap women around for five years because they didn't wear a veil
... you know, guys like that ain't got no manhood left anyway. So it's a hell of a lot of fun to shoot them."
