    Colt taper pins

Did Colt change specs? I have an alleged Colt upper that both taper pins are about 1/8” shallow & not all the way to the smaller end. In other words, they look too short, and the wide head is mangled. It looks like the taper holes wasn’t appropriately reamed & they tried to hammer the pins across?

I've sure never seen that in a Colt. Industry-standard taper pins are very soft but not the ones Colt uses.

Based on the wide end deformity, I don’t think it’s a Colt pin.

If it is, the hole wasn’t properly reamed & the assembler deformed it trying to hammer it in.

I was lead to believe it was Colt assembled but have since found it wasn’t. The box in the ad said “Authentic Colt Upper Receiver Assembly”

    This keeps getting more interesting:

I have genuine Colt taper pins that are 0.846” while the ones I removed are 0.778” which is a 0.068” difference.

I had to ream the holes to install the real Colt pins—anyone else seeing this?

Which seller did you purchase this from on Gunbroker? Seems deceptive.

Looks like Colt is still in it's tailspin towards the bottom of the heap to me. They were good when they were they only game in town and didn't have to be. Competition will kill them. Colt is the next Armalite.. Squeezing as much juice from the prancing horses as possible before putting them out to pasture.
