Can't see that anything Colt's does or doesn't do matters. As companies go it's a miracle they're still around out there.

Might not want to explore the Colt Expanse rifle. While not Made in China, seems there is lots of DPMS quality parts.

The union has filed a grievance against Colt’s and asked the court to order it to put its outsourcing plans on hold until an arbitrator acts on the grievance.

Colt’s informed the union in October that it would outsource all manufacturing of major rifle components, including the two most significant parts, bolts and barrels, to outside vendors, the UAW said.

Colt’s notified the union on Feb. 16 that it would proceed with planned layoffs and did so five days later, cutting about 74 workers from the payroll, the UAW said. The union said about 288 members of the collective bargaining unit remain, down from 506 in October 2016.

Colt’s told the union “financial conditions” forced it to use outsourcing to reduce costs, the union said in its lawsuit.

Colt’s received a $10 million loan from the state in April 2017 tied to keeping 615 jobs. Colt’s could earn $1 million in forgiveness If it reaches 690 jobs or $2 million if it creates 740 jobs, according to a spokesman for the Department of Economic and Community Development.

The agreement also requires Colt’s to pay a penalty of $16,259 per job if it falls short of its obligation to establish 615 full-time jobs.

The contract with the state requires Colt’s to have an average of 615 jobs for 60 consecutive months ending Dec. 31, 2021.

Maybe Colt ought to shutter the plant and move operations to Tennessee. Tell the union to take a hike.
