"Republicans hold a slim lead over Democrats in a generic ballot among registered voters, a new Reuters poll found, marking the first time the survey showed the GOP ahead in this election cycle.

The poll showed 38.1 percent of registered voters said they would vote for a Republican candidate if midterm elections were held today, compared to just under 37 percent who said they'd vote for a Democrat."

Normally, that would be encouraging news. In this political environment and with the news media that we currently all must suffer under, I don't have the vaguest clue how to interpret the significance of that information. If polls had any meaning, we'd all be grousing about President Hillary these days.

Yep, especially with forums like DUh.com and FreeRepublic, doing everything they can to slam and skew polls. Additionally, how many voters aren't even online? How many voters never visit news sites or participate in online polls?

I got fed up with the entire charade of evening news citing online polls that were representative of those who waste their time with polls, and that's assuming they didn't just flush polls that produced results other than expected.

In the early days on TOS, we used to get pretty worked up about this stuff and we'd hit the polls until they were 80% representative of our views only to see the numbers get reset, deliberately changed or just watch the poll in question magically disappear.

It's an even bigger waste of time than petition.gov which is an actual government website. And even if you got the requisite numbers, typically NOTHING happened. The only time I ever remember one being addressed was about building a Death Star because a bunch of sci fi nerds slammed it.

The left has screamed, wailed, and freaked out yelling "CHEETO" so many times- and people's lives go on. Trump was supposed to be Armageddon and... and.... and.....

The main issues they raise are dog whistles for their base, and I don't think really get much traction with people. Only a DC Deep State-er would point at Trump and call him immoral, idiotic and a criminal and not realize that 90% of the population thinks that of all the pols anyways.

The left tried to kill the king. He survived, their are political prices to be paid.

I remember several stories from 2016 (and prior) regarding how the left skews polling to attempt to suppress Republican voter turn out (making R voters believe it is futile to vote). For example the polls NBC had that showed Hillary way up over samples Democrats, but not enough so that the poll would be considered “invalid”, but knowing detailed polling data they intentionally over and under sample specific demographics. For example, the poll may over sample black female Democrats who are overwhelmingly going to vote for the Democrat, vs. a middle aged Caucasian potentially blue dog Democrat. Likewise, they will avoid the most conservative Republican voters and intentionally contact RINOs to get the desired polling data.

I mean, it’s really not that hard to cook the books in a poll and make it appear “scientific” if you really want to. The end result is akin to tolerance stacking, the polling data that should fit no longer represents reality.... I suppose it is possible for a bunch of conservatives to rig a poll like the left does, but that tends to be the lefts’ modus operendi and not the rights’. I highly doubt that Reuters is cooking the books in favor of Republicans, very bad news indeed for the left (barring a major catastrophic event Trump or the Republicans are blamed for prior to the mid terms).
