AK mounted Ultimak and gas tube / block cleaning...

For those who have their AK optic mounted on an Ultimak rail, do you clean without removing the gas tube? Or does it retain enough zero so that you can remove to get at the gas block?

There's no real need to clean it, unless you are shooting corrosive ammunition. Then I would just use a shotgun brush and leave it on the gun.

When you want to clean it out just use a long brush or a cleaning rod. No need to remove it.

And no, it won't retain a zero if you remove it from the rifle.

This is funny - I am anal about cleaning all my stuff(thank you Army training) and the fact that the Ulitmak essentially becomes one with the receiver/barrel just causes me to pause when cleaning.

I actually use and old Tommy Gun brush with CLP to break it up and just patches and patches to pull it out. Truly never a clean as I want it but that is when I have to repeat to myself "this is an AK, this is an AK, this is an AK"

I think I just passed the 4k mark on my AK. No cleaning to date. Sprayed down the bolt/piston/carrier with whatever lube was in my tool kit the other day for the first time. Never even dawned on me to clean the inside of the Ultimak.

From what I recall of my old AK that I actually cleaned, I did what the_katar suggests and ran a shotgun brush and mop down it.
