Switching a Sporterized AK to standard configuration?

Is it possible to make this conversion? A local gun shop has a "sporterized" AK (looks like a hunting rifle) at a good price and I'm wondering if I can switch it back to the traditional look with an original or remanufactured stock kit. There's a traditional stock kit in another store locally that's unfinished. I'd probably just finish it with stain and lacquer it myself.

EDIT: It's a Saiga...don't know much about these. Are they worth it? He's said he'd take $330 OTD with rifle, case, and 2 10-round mags.

A man with a gun is a citizen. A man without a gun is a subject.

    Yes, it's very doable.

You might want to join TheAKForum.net to get the whole low-down.

It's not for the faint of heart if you've not done anything like it before.

Building an AK is much different than assembling an AR.

A Saiga conversion is easily accomplished by anyone familiar with hand tools

    Check-out http://forum.saiga-12.com for specific info

I did my first conversion with a dremel and a cordless drill will sitting on my futon in the living room (perhaps one of the reasons why I got divorced!). It's not terribly hard in the least.

Once again, read-up at Saiga-12.com and you'll get all the info on the nuances of such a conversion.

If by the people art gunco.net you mean the people at gunsnet.net, then you are correct indeed
