You said you had nothing against both but then go ahead and give us a reason why you are turned off by them. So then you do have something against them. What you said does make sense though. What would you recommend then in these sizes?

7.5" 5.56 barrels are meme level silliness. This is America though, so if that's what you want to get because reasons, then by all means... And if you want to pretend it is a weapon for serious use, then have at it. Just don't expect the rest of us to pretend with you.

A sig rattler would do what you're asking for better in a much smaller package

I’m starting to think he was telling untruths to justify his hate for the weapon. That’s not good. Hopefully he will post some proof of this gun not stabilizing Rounds and keyholing. We shall see
I'd still need a version that takes standard SCAR stocks.

I said that I have nothing against buying both firearms. FN hasn't hosed me personally, but their reputation for lack luster customer service is obviously earned. I made my purchase understanding that. I have personally experienced Sig abandoning the 556 platform, so I'm wary of buying their new designs. I did by a M11-A1 recently. The 228/229 platform is proven and mature, so I don't think parts will be an issue with the M11-A1. All this to say that I might buy from each in spite of the issues with each company.

What would you recommend then in these sizes?
I'm honestly not the guy to ask. I'm more of a collector than an operator. I shoot and enjoy guns for their design and history, but I'm not an operator and don't get stuck on getting the best design.

I shot the 9in 556 MCX Spear Lt. 75gn gold Dot, M193, M855, Mk318 SOST rounds. Not a hint of Keyholing. Can you please provide a source of the guns keyholing? I can’t find a thing on it. Obviously you had this issue with the Sig and or FN due to making the comment. Can you give us your experiences with this issue? Thanks

That is not the case. I have shot a 556 rattler (5.5" barrel in 556). There was no keyholing inside 50 yards. A lot of people chiming in with no knowledge. That said, the 300 blackout is a better option for barrels under 10 inches.

A lengthy post from a while ago I posted discussed SOCOM adopting Rattlers 5.56 and.300BLK. No doubt, 300BK is a better choice for shorty barrels, with proper choice of ammo optimized for short barrels, 5.56 will get er done.

I agree. They are for short range. The Gold Dot 75gn is optimal for short barrels.
