Glad you and your dog are ok. I had to deal with exactly the same shit in Florida to the point I stopped walking my dogs at night. Pit bulls attract the least qualified owners worse than a gold plated desert eagle with laser sights.

The final straw for me was my wife and I were walking our two dogs, when I saw two loose pitbulls. I handed her the leash in my hand and told her to keep walking. I got the pitbulls to pay attention to me, pulled my P7s and started back peddling. If they'd have followed my wife I'd have killed them both. The followed me across the street and if they continued onto the sidewalk, I'd have killed them both. For some reason once I stopped they stopped and decided not to push it.

I got home, called the police and found out the teenage kid at the house had let them into the yard so he could hose the dog crap off the back porch, he left the fence gate open. The cop told the family that a licensed gun carrier came within a couple feet of killing both of their dogs. It really pissed me off that every 5th or 6th house had a irresponsible dog owner, one of the many, many reasons I eventually sold my house and moved.

In the 5 years I've been in Iowa I've only had to deal with it one time, a little yip dog that some shithead just opened the front door and let out. It took a lot of effort to keep my GSD from killing it since it perceived the yip dog running down the driveway barking at us as a threat. Pissed me off to correct my dog from doing everything it had been trained to do. I so much wanted to kick punt the damn thing back into it's own yard but it isn't the dogs fault the owner is a f'ing retard.

In your case, I would press charges, the life you save will be the next little kid that just happens to be on the sidewalk when those dipshits open the door again. Them letting a little girl try and control their pit bull is like me handing an Uzi to the little girl next door and being surprised when something bad happens.

I'm a nice guy so I would settle for the dog being surrendered. But otherwise, all of the above. I'd rather see them lose their dog (their fault) than somebody else lose their dog, or kid, because they weren't as capable of protecting them as you.

These people are the reason we have a world with personal injury attorney's.

When I was still a cop we averaged a dog shooting every couple of months and it was always some yard shark with a piece of shit owner. This was in a city that was basically a suburb of Atlanta so...

Mom's house keeper / assistant was walking the lap dogs several months ago on the hike / bike trail when a doberman got loose from her owner & slammed into Delma (who had snatched up the dogs when seeing the charge) knocking her flat on her back & then tearing into one of the poor pups...the cunt owner came running up to re-leash & then sprinted away. Mom's dog died the following morning.

I enjoy the company of my dogs more than most people I meet these days...those that knowingly house evil dogs are below bottom feeders.

I hope the owner of that dober gets what's coming to her someday.

    What a POS.

The reality is "some people" shouldn't have guns, dogs, cars, money, pointed sticks, alcohol, unsupervised freedom. So many "zero responsibility" f ups in this world it's hard to just mind your business and keep walking.

OP, good on you for protecting your dog.

The owners of that dog need a ****ing dirt nap. People that stupid shouldn't be allowed to exist.

I’d like to re-emphasize that the OP called it a 30lb dog. A shoe or fist with adequate FPS would wreck it. Its basically a small child with pointy teeth.

But he was also walking his 10 lb dog and trying to protect it. He made a judgement call, his dog is alive, he might have had easier options but he shouldn't have even had to deal with this BS in the first place.

If someone has the presence of mind to place kick the damn thing back into the yard, sure I'm good with that. But then you run the risk of being charged with animal abuse when the homeowners submit partial footage from their security cameras where it looks like you just kicked their dog because it ran up to you to get petted.

One commonality among shockingly irresponsible people, they never really think they did anything wrong.

I had literally only a couple of seconds to decide. I knew if it got my dog I'd never be able to separate them and it would have likely killed my dog while I was trying to stomp it's guts out.

I disagree with your assessment that a 30 lb pitbull is a child with teeth. I'd like to see you put that pitbull over your knee and spank it. I have no doubt that I could have prevailed in a physical confrontation but at what cost? My dog's life? 100 stitches in my arms and legs? No thanks. Two more seconds and I would have emptied my gun into it.

PS....It was 92 degrees in Dallas yesterday and I was wearing flip flops....not combat boots.

People will always second guess others. Sounds like you made a solid decision at a split seconds notice.
