I am thinking about buying a Glock 22 gen 5, but then I started reading about the different generations of mags.
I have a ton of Glock 40S&W mags from prior generations. Will these mags function in a Glock pistol gen 5?

Previous gen mags will work.
Fit with older holsters can be an issue if the .40 is like other Gen 5's.
They are interchangeable.
The gen 5s dont seat easily in a gen4 WITH a magpul magwell.
If you use extended mags (full aize mag in a compact), then 0 issues. The mag body is the same, floor plate and ambi slots are the only difference
The old mags will work. You’ll need new holsters. The slide on the Gen 5 .40 is wider than the 9mm. It won’t fit in holsters made for previous Gen .40s.
As long as you are not reversing the mag release previous gen magazines work fine.
All will work. Use it well and stay safe.
