We have MD students who weren't born on 9/11. That hit me hard.

When you make it to 80 you come to the realization that the years you have left can probably be counted on two or maybe one hand. It's like standing in a canoe, it doesn't take much rough water to flip you into the water.
You think about about all the things you have accumulated over your lifetime will probably get thrown in a dumpster or given to away. You wonder how your children, grandchildren and unborn great grandchildren's life will turn out to be. You get melancholily.

What if there are no kids or grandkids to worry about?

For my military people out there, I found out that through LinkedIn that one of my "Boots" that I trained up as a salty Cpl (E4) just picked up the rank of GySgt (E7). I remember picking him up after he passed out leaned up against a Walgreens trying to buy more booze and his girlfriend at the time called me and now he's a Senior Leader of Marines...

Then you are consigned to the dustbin of history and 25 years after your death no one will know you ever existed. With luck maybe your picture will be hanging on the wall of some Cracker Barrel restaurant 100 years from now and people will wonder who you were or not.

No known offspring here either. Being "remembered" is my absolute LAST concern, because I'll be dead.

Old? As an airline pilot, I'm flying with "kids" now that weren't born when I got my pilots license, and even a few that weren't around for 9/11. It has it's benefits though... I was in the military and was wearing a flight suit when the original Top Gun came out. My God, to be young, single and walk into a bar wearing one of those things in 1986... Let's just say that Top Gun II really hit me hard.

OK. Going to try and go p00p now and fart some dust later...
