    "Alien: Romulus"

Another one for us fans of the "Alien" universe. Opens in theatres in August. Hope it doesn't turn out to be a dud.

This. Prometheus (2012) taught me that I can't even trust Ridley Scott. This one is basically a Disney films (since they own 21 Fox) and it was mostly filmed in Budapest by a director I've never even heard of.

Was originally intended for Hulu but they thought it would do well in theaters, I'm not taking the bait. Might watch it when it finally is on Hulu if I get really, really bored.

I don’t have much hope for Hollywood, but I’ll set myself up for failure and think this is going to be good.

The trailer looks like a mashup of all the other alien movies. If it was a follow up to Prometheus, I might actually be interested.

Prometheus lost me from the moment they dumped human DNA into the water. Like that is somehow gonna lead to single cell organisms or were people supposed to think it was gonna create human water babies. You can't do quality sci fi when you don't have a 6th graders understanding of science.

Honestly that is what made the first Alien film so goddamn scary, given what we knew, THAT was probably pretty close to what an alien species would probably be like. It certainly wasn't gonna speak english or believe in gods.

    Really?!

I loved Prometheus! Way better than all but #1 Aliens and it gives that a run for the money! Covenant was where RS dropped the ball failing with huge plot holes that looked only like they couldn't sign on Naomi to reprise her role from Prometheus! A better Covenant would have answered the Prometheus questions and built more solidly upon it.

At least they seem to address the deeper ideas of Alien as opposed to just a monster movie. The hows and whys like them or not.

Gotta remember the Alien franchise was all but dead with all the lame sequels and Prometheus had breathed new life into it only to be wasted with Covenant.

BTW I don't think Covenant is all that bad, it just failed to work as a satisfying sequel.

I wanted to like Prometheus but some things are hard to take. For me the creator dissolving into human DNA in the water to create life, let alone human life was harder to take than some of the ridiculous "can't happen because physics won't allow it" gun nonsense that happens in films and we can't stand it.

Just because Prometheus wasn't as crappy as the rest of the spin offs / sequels doesn't mean it was good. The only part that I really liked was when the Engineer killed Peter Weyland. The character of Elizabeth Shaw was completely uninteresting and the film was mostly about her. The whole dark ooze bioweapon which results in her pregnancy but kills Charlie Holloway was just idiotic. It was like they did a Marvel comics version of an Alien film where any premise, no matter how ridiculous is acceptable.

Prometheus should have been the film that set things right and made up for the third and fourth Alien films (which were crap), but that didn't happen. I also think Aliens, the second film, was the best of the bunch because they were really able to expand the concept of the alien species.

There hasn't been a good Alien movie since Aliens. Video games and comics have done a much better job than any of the films.
It's f*****g great, putting holes in people, all the time, and it just puts 'em down mate, they drop like sacks of s**t when they go down with this.

It falls, timeline wise, between the first two.
