Squatters rights?! FL looks to pass law that makes it easier to boot a squatter. No squatters deserve any Rights to others property:

If squatters refuse to leave after being told to do so by the lawful owner it should be legal to shoot them. You get ONE warning/request to vacate, after that the range is hot!

This is just one example why I am soooo glad DeSantis isn't our presidential nominee.

Since Florida has been Heroin "recovery" central for over 10 years now, this is a long time coming.

I live alone and travel half of the year.
This worries me and I take a lot of precautions.

Other than hearing the term 'squatters rights' now and then over the years I never paid it much attention. Seems to be getting a lot of attention these days as tens of millions of illegals enter our country unabated.

With sky-high home prices and rent, where are all these uneducated, unemployed, non-English speaking people supposed to live other than government subsidized housing, or squat in someone's home? Seems like it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

Had some idiot throw this in my face during an eviction I was serving. She thought she could just get grandma's house after she died. The house was bought as a foreclosure and she thought she had squaters rights to stay. I told her she could squat in jail after I kicked the door in. She packed her shit and left. I looked up squaters rights in MO and if you can prove you lived there for more than 10 years without a contact, you could stay.

Man...you don't know anyone you trust enough to house sit for you? If I was gonna be gone for more than a couple days I always put up somebody I know, I usually ended up buying them groceries to do it.

Remember all those foreclosures during the housing crash? When the owners finally got moved out, sometimes it took more than a year for the bank to get around to even looking at the house and plenty of homeless people moved in usually with some BS story about renting from the owner. All they need is a piece of mail with his name on it and claim they were renting to own in cash.

My neighbor across the street has keys and watches my place, but for some reason he seems hesitant to actually come in the house while he's watching it.
I've considered buying a good bottle of scotch and having him over before I leave and letting him know he's welcome to come over, relax, have some scotch and watch some TV while I'm gone.
You could actually enter my house through the rear and come and go at odd hours and you might be able to live hear a couple of months before anyone noticed.

He's already got a house. I always tapped one of my guys who was living in an apartment or still living at home.
