If any of their records, including Biggie and the rest, were released in the 80s they would have been laughed out of the room. But buying famous samples and simple rhymes for simple minds seems to have been the winning formula at the time.

As for me I'll just keep listening to De La Soul and Stetsasonic.

More about dancing, ladies, being cool. Think "The Fat Boys" and much of the "Beastie Boys".

I realize the hard stuff was around early, too, like Ice-T & others.
