    Since he knew her, I'm assuming the suppressed .22 was there to kill her when all was said and done.

    Decent chance.
    When I first read about the incident, it was sounding like a family member or someone else close with the knowing her mention which made the surprise and agitation over discovering the son seem kind of odd. This article seemed to indicate it was closer to crossing paths several times level of knowing each other.
