Obama bin Biden and the new Firearms Black Market

Since the general election we’ve seen the mad rush for black rifles, magazines, pistols, ammunition, etc. Some have criticized this rush as irrational and point out that any new gun legislation will be months away or longer. This may be true, but for those of us who tolerated the last ban (1994-2004) we remember the good old days of buying surplus high capacity mags and the fun of refinishing, or spending big money to buy a pre-ban rifle with the pistol grip, collapsible stock, bayo lug, etc.

I’m an ex Army Aviation Officer (1977-1997) who takes the approach that stocking up now is not irrational, but smart, provided you have the financial resources. We have just elected the smartest politician to come down the pike in a long time. Combine this with the fact that this guy is a Socialist with Marxist leanings who has a certain hypnotic power over the masses and we have a big problem. It is not easy task to run circles around the Clinton political machine, but this is what Obama did.

As avid gun and shooting enthusiasts, we should be prepared for new legislation which will happen, and will be more thorough than the ’94 ban; including banning gun show and sales between private individuals. With such legislation you suddenly turn millions of Americans into instant felons, who would give a gun to a family member or friend, or make a simple sale of a firearm when cash was short (which I have had to do when younger).

I have always found that firearms are money in the bank, and high capacity magazines and milspec ammo always brings a good price. When Obama bin Biden and his minions get the tougher new laws in place, we will have a new underground black market in the sale of these items. What you buy now could give you cash in hand later on in hard times. I don’t see a SHTF scenario happening, but I do see a systematic low key assault on gun rights coming. We have 110 million + guns owners in the U.S. and sadly many will comply with these tyrannical new laws. However, many will not (especially in rural areas) and I don’t have a problem with that. At some point, tyranny has to be confronted, even in small ways with non-compliance to un-Constitutional legislation; sort of like violating prohibition in the early part of the 20th Century.

So, since many of us will be operating in this new black market, I would like to see comments or thoughts about what you see coming from our new (p)resident.

Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D, NY) called for taxes on ammo in '93. The Dims thought banning EBR's and magazines was sufficient.

They will not make the same mistake this time. Look, too, for a move toward prohibition of lead in ammunition (save the environment, ha!) as well has higher, much higher, taxes on ammo.

Whatever happens, the vast majority of gun owners will comply with the law. What other choice do you have besides writing your lawmakers? Doesn't seem like thats going to be a strategy that will work over the next few years. Gun owners by nature are law abiding citizens, I don't see too many people willing to fight the ATF just to keep a gun. Timothy McVeigh and like minded individuals attempted to bring attention to this issue in the 90's. The .gov made an example of those guys and the right wing extremists have been quiet ever since.

Doesn't seem like thats going to be a strategy that will work over the next few years. Gun owners by nature are law abiding citizens, I don't see too many people willing to fight the ATF just to keep a gun. Timothy McVeigh and like minded individuals attempted to bring attention to this issue in the 90's. The .gov made an example of those guys and the right wing extremists have been quiet ever since.

Smuggling and dealing is the same no matter what illegal item it is, I figure gun dealers could be held next to drug dealers etc.

Bingo !!! However, I am only referring to the average citizen Patriot, not dealers. Forums such as this one and other are most certainly trolled by anti-gunners and even the Feds, so even now everyone professes upstanding legal behavior in all aspects of "Assault" Rifle and accessory ownership.

If serious gun banning takes place, forums like this will not be a place for the open exchange of ideas out of fear. So, even the discussion of weapon builds, magazines, etc. would go underground. If the sale of a firearm between individuals is deemed illegal, it will still happen, just not openly. The same for the use of high capacity magazines (which some States already regulate), you will use them, just keep that aspect secret, and never admit to owning them.

What this all leads to is a sub-culture of gunowners who have all the banned features on their weapons, high capacity magazines, etc. they just don't advertise the fact. So, you still end up with a black market in trading and selling of guns, mags, etc. What a shame this Great Country may be facing....

I don't expect to see much of anything in the way of " gun control" from Congress-- the votes just are not there. Look at voting and co-sponsorship patterns over the last 2 years , NRA grades for the new Congress , support for Heller against DC , and the lack of "gun control " campaigning.

OH58D I agrre on what you said in your first post. I think that there will be no gun legislation if any for a while. There is too many other things that need his/there attention right now. So just buy what you can afford every month. Plus with the mid term elections coming up in 2010 they have to be careful. They got there butt kicked before when they passed gun legislation. I think they know this is not 1994 anymore!
