    Ammo Can Capacity

I'm curious if anyone knows the breakdown for how many loose rounds will fit into various ammo cans.

This would make a helluva sticky, if we could get some detailed info.

I personally am curious how many .45s will fit in a .30 cal can.

Can't help too much but I can be real sure that 1200 rounds of 5.56 loose, will fit in a .50 can.

    How Much?

20 boxes of 50rds each will fit into a 9mm can.

    I was bored, and curious...

Approximately 770 .45s will fit into a .30cal Ammunition Can. It is to the brim, but they will definitely fit.

What I know for sure -

    9MM -
20 boxes of 50 rds of Blazer Brass 9mm will fit into a regular 50 cal ammo can. (1000 rds)
You have a hard time fitting all the boxes in if they're all the older, larger size box.

    30.06 -
60 M1 Garand 8rd enblocs fit into a regular 50 cal ammo can. (480 rds)
Stack them alternating in direction and they fit just fine.

    5.56MM -
20 PMags or 24 regular mags (Ranger plates/Magpuls or not) fit into a "Tall" 50 cal ammo can.
This is vertically in a 5x4 (PMags) or 6x4 (regular mags) arrangement. More might fit if you lay down mags across the top, especially if they don't have Magpuls.
I shamelessly stole this technique from Rob_s.

I might add that I throw in 1 or 2 packs of dessicant as well, so there is a small bit of additional room.

File this under "I can't be sure," but I seem to recall a friend having a "fat" 50 ammo can and it held a ton of 20rd AR15 mags in a very easy way.

Maybe I can get some photos.
