    Hungarian AMD 65 from TGI

I finally found a TGI AMD 65 at a local gun show, I had to get it

Hungarian FEG reciever, original chrome lined bbl, one small tack weld on the brake/extension. Over all fit and appearnce is very good. I have to admit, in todays market I was genuinely surprised to find a Hungarian AMD 65 with a real Hungarian reciever.

What's the story on these??? I remember seeing the receivers for sale a while back - I think they were cut for single stack mags. Are these rifles assembled in the US with the Hungarian receivers and previously imported Hungarian kits or are they brought in from Hungary in a "sporting" form? Just wondering because they look nice.

Its my understanding, they're AMD 65 kits with original bbls built on Hungarian FEG recievers by TGI. I also think the recievers were originally single stack and opened up to accept high cap mags, the mag well looks very good without the tell tale sharp edges usually associated with modified mag wells.

Good project! Do they break down the parts count?

The US parts are the FCG and magazine, 20 round pro mag. Since the muzzle attachment is permanantly attached only 5 US parts are required. I'm using a US floorplate and follower in the imported 30 round mag pictured.

Nice find, JOHNO! I've wanted an AMD-65 ever since I first fired one (in the late 1980's), and I'm green with envy!

Wouldn't the dimples indicate this receiver actually began as a high cap?
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

That's what I thought being a former WASR to SAR wannabe, but on mine you can clearly see that it was milled out to accept double stacks at some point. Mine is marked SA 2000 near the mag well. Everything I've read states they started out as a single stack. I'm not sure what is the deal with the dimples and the single stack mags. David

    Actually, no.....

The Arsenal SLR line were/are imported as single stack receivers, but they have the dimples. The receivers are opened up here at stateside to accept standard mags.

The Hungarian wire folder sucks even more than the East German/Romanian/Polish wire folder, but you can make them a wee more comfortable by wrapping it in 550 cord.
