Honestly, I'd pass on it for a serious use rifle. There are 3 things that stick out about the last time I shot one. The muzzle brake is very loud and puts out a nice fireball. The metal handguard gets pretty hot, and the wire stock is not very comfortable.

I think you would be much better off with an Arsenal SLR-107 if you want a folding stock. Another possible alternative would be to take a standard AK and add a Polish type wire folder. I'm not a huge fan of the wire folder types, but you could take advantage of other muzzle devices and have a traditional forend for better heat management.

Was it like this one? Mine is just like the one pictured at the beginning of the thread, I just changed the grips out. IrishDevil has some good points. I am not a fan of wire stocks either, but I got a deal on this one and it actually surprised me how comfortable it is to shoot. It is loud beside it but I would not say it is any louder than the AK74 style brake. A few other things not mentioned are 30 round mags are tight to get in because of positioning of the front grip. 20 round mags are prefered. The TGI receivers do not have a rear sling swivel. Also the TGI AMD's come with US made mags to meet compliance so you can't use combloc mags without changes. I love mine though it is fun. Its about 25 1/2 inches folded David

Yup, like that but with brown plastic grips.

I can make the wire stock work if need be, but still thinking about the rest of the issues.

One thing making me think about this gun is with a trade of a S&W model 15 and some Norinco .308 ammo I can get it for almost no money out of pocket. Kind of a unique deal that I can't duplicate elsewhere.

I have one too, its really loud so it scares all the AR kids at the range. No cheek weld who due to the wire stock so its unergonomic to me, but its a great folder.

Well, for what I am looking for, a car gun that is compact and fits into a smaller case easily for in and out of the car in a low key fashion, able to hit minute of felon at the 50, firing a round that can punch cover such as cars, this seems to fit the bill.

In some surfing I find that the price on the gun at the shop I visited ain't that great, J&G has these listed for $400

Nice score! I have always felt that the AMD 65s exemplify the meaning of KISS.

Wouldn't the dimples indicate this receiver actually began as a high cap?
It's hard to be a ACLU hating, philosophically Libertarian, socially liberal, fiscally conservative, scientifically grounded, agnostic, porn admiring gun owner who believes in self determination.

That's what I thought being a former WASR to SAR wannabe, but on mine you can clearly see that it was milled out to accept double stacks at some point. Mine is marked SA 2000 near the mag well. Everything I've read states they started out as a single stack. I'm not sure what is the deal with the dimples and the single stack mags. David

    Actually, no.....

The Arsenal SLR line were/are imported as single stack receivers, but they have the dimples. The receivers are opened up here at stateside to accept standard mags.

The Hungarian wire folder sucks even more than the East German/Romanian/Polish wire folder, but you can make them a wee more comfortable by wrapping it in 550 cord.
