If I want to put a railed forend on a Colt 6920 is it a major ordeal to remove the Front Sight to have a full flat top rail system?

i was facing this same ordeal, i opted to get my FSB shaved, no new drill holes for new pins for Low Pro gas block, and i never planned on reinstalling the fsb if i did have it removed, there is a thread already about removing fsb and gotm has some excellent examples of his work on shaving the fsb down. http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=23379 heres the thread if you want to check it out
You can also look at a forend that doesn't require removal.

iraqgunz helped me when i first got a colt and through his and some other really savvy folks advice i came to conclusion that beyond whether its difficult or not, this removal at least seems to me to be a whole lot of chopping of fine china!
Getting the pin holes on a replacement to line up might be problematic. Send it to Ken Elmore at SAW and he can do his operator thing for you.
The Colt FSB has two taper pins which are relatively easy to remove. I installed two Daniel Defense RIS II M4A1 rails yesterday on two Colt 6920 uppers (these retain the factory FSB but you remove the sling swivel, the FSB sticks up out of the top of the rail). Each took me roughly 10 min each from start to finish. I say relatively easy because the more you do the easier it becomes and the quicker you get at it.
With what you're wanting it'll take a little to quite a bit longer. You'll need to either shave the FSB down and refinish it as a low-profile gas block. Or use an aftermarket low-profile gas block. If you choose the aftermarket gas block I'd highly suggest drilling it for a single pin 1/8 dowel pin, that is if you want it as reliable as the factory 6920 upper.

Thanks. I'm not for doing surgery on the thing. I thought it might be simple. I'll keep looking for what I want. Thanks Again!
