The MG42 roller lock was a design based upon a captured Polish prototype. The weapon that served as a basis for the HK design was the Gerat Stg45(M). Before the design could be refined into a production weapon Germany surrendered and the Mauser engineers went to Spain where they eventually produced the CETME rifle.

At the insistence of the Russians the Mauser factory in the French sector of Germany was destroyed, it was not bombed during the war like many believe. Several former Mauser employees bought the property and began producing sewing machine parts since the tooling is similar to that which would be needed for firearms production. When Germany was permitted to resume arms production Mauser built their new factory down the road from the old location and Heckler, Koch and Seidel established the firearms firm Heckler and Koch.

The German military did adopt the FN FAL as the G1 rifle but were refused a license to produce the weapon (as you noted). The CETME was to be the G2 but they did not have to buy the design from Spain, they still owned it but simply produced the rifle in Spain and the Spanish military did adopt it and continued production of the CETME.

By the time Heckler and Koch began firearms production they intended to manufacture the G2 (CETME) rifle but they incorporated some design changes and that resulted in the new designation of the G3.

Those are the only corrections I can find.

I usually go in the other direction and recommend a Taurus judge, carried in an Uncle Mikes holster IWB appendix. If people are "really cool" I inform them that .410 snake loads are the ultimate defensive round and carry a benefit of not being able to do a ballistic match if you need to off a couple street cretins at the local gas station and leave.

But you can also load it with .45 Long Colt MATCH resulting in a small package sniper capable weapon that will outperform even the Beretta 93R. Add some crimson trace laser grips and you have a Terminator grade covert offensive weapon system.

Whether they admit it or not, this is the setup most CIA guys go with when on assignment. And by CIA I mean their super covert office, Century International Arms.

You know they made a custom version for US Navy SEALs right?

You can tell it's a real Navy Seal gun because it is sterile and doesn't say "US Navy" or "SEALs" on it anywhere. This is exactly the kind of covert weapon system that SEALs employ on their most sensitive operations. If they get caught with it, it looks like some kind of civie gun but with obvious special operations capable features.

    Bringing this back.

Not gun related, but was in a gun store, kind of, Army Surplus, but still it kiss cousin type stores.

Anyway, I went into a local surplus store mainly looking to see what they might have brought in new from the last time I was there. I have bought stuff from them from time to time because it was interesting, a good price, or fell into the "I'll pay an extra dollar to be able to sort the used mags/stuff myself."

Anyway, I walk in and start looking around, they had some honest mil surp stuff, as well as some junk new production stuff, to include a couple bins of cheap knives which I pretty much looked at and ignored.
Anyway, while I was sorting through a bin of mags trying to find some in good enough condition that I would be willing to buy them, a couple of guys walk in who look like they were out for a walk after assaulting the buffet that was just down the way a little bit. As I am looking through the mags they go straight for the bin of cheap "Survival knives" and start finger ****ing them. As I get towards the end of my exploration of the bin I hear this gem,

Fat guy one: "Yeah, that looks like a real deadly blade."
Fat guy two: "Oh it is, prob special force surplus. Real deadly, but I always ensure that my tactical carry blade is deadlier by coating the blade in hot sauce. if the stab doesn't kill them the burn will."

Would someone please make the stupid stop.

I left after that before they got to the section with body armor and bullets. I could have probably had a dozen wonderful lines, but my head would have exploded and I am sure one of the fat ****s would have tried to take credit for it with their super secret brain powers.
