I've seen a number of 40s chamber, fire, and cycle 9mm rounds with varying degrees of reliability. Mostly Glocks 22 and 23. It's most often seen when inattentive students grab loose boxes of ammo. One officer shot an entire 50rd COF, and a fairly large pattern, never knowing the difference except for a couple of stoppages along the way.

My brother did that ONCE...he put a couple of 9mm rounds through my .40 P229....then I looked at the ammo he was loading.....grrrrrr
