I have seen rear lugs on upper receivers that have been ovaled out because people insist on using an accuwedge. They would insert the wedge press the upper and lower as tightly together as they could then pound the take down pin through, the pin eventually makes its own ramp and "groove" in the rear lug to ease the process.

you could do it the "right" way by using the jp tension pins... if you insist on having no play between the upper and lower
