Curious to know if it is easy and even plausible to have a .223 barrel rebored and re-chambered to 6.8 or 6.5? Seems like a 24" barrel would be better suited for one of those. Just a thought. it's just laying around.

I don't think that's possible I would just buy a 6.8 spc barrel. find one that's got a specII chamber and 1:11 or 1:12 twist so you can use the SSA combat loads.
Yeah, I can only imagine the margin between my barrel vs. a lower production 6.8 would be quite a bit price wise vs. some machine work. I guess it would have to be re-chromed as well tho, which brings the price up.

I was actually just looking at the page. Noveske is my first goto for everything. Looking for +20" tho.
Why are you thinking 20"?
I would like to have a 16" in 5.56, and a larger caliber on an AR platform for longer distance shooting. 24 seems like over kill for 5.56, but I really like the longer barrel guns. Would like to have a long barrel 6.8 with a PRS stock and a 10rd mag. Easily doable on any lower even after an AWB.
I could buy a complete upper in 5.56, use it on my current lower, and then convert my current upper to 6.8 for use on a new lower, with a longer stock and low cap mag.
After a few emails to smiths and barrel experts, signs are pointing to no on reboring to 6.8. FWIW
Why not 18 inch spr build mk12mod1 style.
Besides 6.8 is optimized for 20inch or shorter barrels. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_..._Purpose_Rifle

Realistically, there is no advantage in the 6.8 after 16 inches.
That said I use an 18" 68 for hunting but I just like to be different, I have not seen a 20" much and I see a lot of 68 rifles.
